Videos appear dark because of overlay that only disappears with user interaction #535

Took me way too long to realise what was happening here.

  • videos look dark because of overlay
  • overlay isn't very visible when it is active, IMHO

Expected

  • overlay should disappear after a moment

Actual

  • overlay does not disappear on its own
  • user needs to click to make it disappear

Hmm, it looks like there are two issues here:

  • the overlay is being positioned incorrectly (the skip back/pause/skip forward buttons should be centered), so it's much less prominent than otherwise
  • the overlay should disappear automatically a few seconds after playback starts

The overlay not automatically disappearing will be fixed in the next build, but I'm not able to reproduce the positioning issue?

Does it happen every time you play a video, or only with certain videos? (For completeness' sake, I did also test with the system "Reduce Motion" accessibility setting turned on and was not able to reproduce it there either.)

Positioning the overlay buttons do not seem to be repositioned according to visible width of content?

I can only get it to happen on macOS.
