If /api/v1/instance fails, we'll try nodeinfo and if that finds a valid (i.e., rel: http://nodeinfo.diaspora.software/ns/schema/2.0) link, consider the instance valid. Only use it as a fallback, because it doesn't provide the thumbnail like /api/v1/instance.
